چکیده
Malignant mesothelioma is a tumor involving the pleura or peritoneum. It characteristically presents with dyspnea, pleural eff usions and pleuritic chest pain. Its diagnosis is established by pleural fl uid cytology or pleural biopsy [1]. Based on our literature review, there are less than 10 published cases of malignant mesothelioma in which the initial presentation was dysphagia and the diagnosis was established by endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with fi ne needle aspiration (FNA) [2,3]. An 81-year-old man was referred to our hospital for worsening dysphagia. Th is was associated with unintentional 22 lbs (10 kg) weight loss in the past 3 months. He had underlying severe chronic obstructive lung disease and congestive heart failure. Th e physical examination was signifi cant for cachexia and decreased bilateral breath sounds with occasional wheezing. He had a barium esophagogram which showed midesophageal narrowing. A computed tomography of the chest demonstrated a mediastinal mass (Fig. 1). He underwent an esophagogastroduodenoscopy which showed extrinsic esophageal compression but no evidence of an esophageal mass. EUS demonstrated an extra-esophageal, subcarinal mass that was sampled by FNA (Fig. 2A). Cytology was consistent with malignant mesothelioma (Fig. 2B). In light of his multiple medical comorbidities, the patient opted for palliative treatment. A percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube was placed for nutritional support due to his ongoing dysphagia.

Primary Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Liver Initially Presenting with Pseudoachalasia
Pseudoachalasia secondary to primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the liver is extremely rare and has not been reported until now. Here, we report a unique case of primary SCC of the liver initially presenting with progressive dysphagia along with short periods of significant weight loss. A 58-year-old man initially presented with progressive dysphagia along with significant weight loss ove...
متن کاملEndoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration of a pericardial mass.
The prevalence of primary pericardial neoplasms ranges from about 0.001%– 0.007%. Primary malignant pericardial mesothelioma is extremely rare, with a reported prevalence of 0.0022% in autopsy series [1]. Although malignant mesothelioma is the most common primary malignancy of the pericardium, only approximately 350 cases of pericardial mesothelioma have been reported in the literature. Diagnos...
متن کاملGastric metastasis from ovarian adenocarcinoma presenting as a subepithelial tumor and diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue acquisition
We describe an uncommon case of a patient with a metastatic adenocarcinoma of ovarian origin presented as a gastric subepithelial tumor (SET) and that was diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasound fine-needle biopsy (EUS-FNB). Malignant gastric lesions are rarely metastatic and the primary tumor is mainly breast, lung, esophageal cancer or cutaneous melanoma. Gastric metastasis from ovarian cancer is ...
متن کاملOutcome of endoscopic therapeutic interventions: are they different among various non-malignant esophageal diseases.
BACKGROUND This study was carried out to evaluate and compare the outcome of various causes of non-malignant lesions of the esophagus after endoscopic therapeutic intervention. METHODS A cohort of patients with non-malignant dysphagia presenting at Aga Khan University hospital, a tertiary care setting who underwent endoscopic intervention was studied. Response to treatment was evaluated by im...
متن کاملFirst report of a mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of the esophagus diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA).
Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of the esophagus is a rare tumor [1–3] with varying presentations [4]. Only a few reports have described MALT lymphoma of the esophagus spanning the entire circumference and length of the esophagus [3]. Many of these cases were diagnosed surgically. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is an established method of obtaini...
